Alex and James are the co-founders of My Flooring which was established in Tawau more than a decade ago. They met while working then for another flooring installation company. After gaining experience, they pursued freelancing as a contractor in Tawau. It was tough as they did everything from distributing flyers to being administrators and being installers; basically being all-rounders that lasted for about 2 years.

Around that time, they met Mr Ting CY, a veteran in the wood and flooring industry. In 2014, My Flooring was awarded the sole distributor for Robina Flooring, a leading laminate flooring manufacturer in South East Asia, for the whole of Borneo market. It was certainly an accomplishment!

James Wong

Tawau

James recognises the need to invest in research & development in order to stay ahead of the competition. One example of innovation is the modification in the design of the moulding. As a result, My Flooring managed to reap the benefits in terms of storage & transportation savings, higher efficiency during installation and reduction in the need for after-sales servicing (due to improved in both material durability and installation method).

James also wishes to shed the perception that My Flooring only offers premium quality flooring. Being a one-stop center, My Flooring can cater to a wide range of customers with various needs and budgets!

Both Alex and James would like to see My Flooring become a household name in the entire Borneo market. They are keen for the right people to join as dealers for this well established one-stop flooring platform.

Alex Loo currently spearheads My Flooring Kota Kinabalu branch with his Business Partner Clarina Chang. Clarina joined the team in 2013, currently focuses on marketing and catering to the retail market. Alex mostly is focused on serving developers for the housing and apartment development projects.

From their observation, most customers pay attention to pricing rather than product quality. My Flooring’s challenge is in communicating that our products offer higher value for money, the focus being that the increase in product quality & durability far outweighs any price difference. Alex observes that in recent years, increasingly developers are turning to better quality flooring as it lasts longer, and in turn, developers receive fewer complaints from property buyers & thus it is favourable for the reputation of the developer.

My Flooring has been in the market for over 10 years, a testament to their great success!

Brothers Simon and Steven Loo head Sandakan and Lahad Datu  respectively. Despite these locations being much smaller markets compared to Kota Kinabalu, the brothers have had much success in capturing a significant market share. Smaller markets enabled word-of-mouth to spread faster, and their quality of work spoke for itself.

Despite the flooring industry being a very competitive scene, the brothers seemed unfazed. Their mantra being “with the right products & the right attitude, we are here to stay”, Sandakan & Lahad Datu are indeed in safe hands.

Henry Pua

Henry Pua is a seasoned professional with a Diploma in Quantity Surveyor and a Bachelor’s in Science (Hons) Construction Management. Over the course of 11 years in the Flooring Industry, he has amassed a wealth of experience in various types of flooring works, such as Solid Wood, Laminate, Vinyl, eSPC, and Engineering Board.

In Kuching, Henry has successfully completed numerous commercial, housing and condominium flooring projects, as well as the refurbishment of the State’s Old Museum and Old Courthouse flooring. His most recent achievement includes the completion of the flooring works at Damai Lagoon Resort.

Henry’s primary goal is to deliver high-quality and innovative flooring solutions to the market. His expertise and unwavering commitment to excellence in flooring have earned him a solid reputation as a reliable and skilled professional in the industry. His dedication to improving the quality of flooring products and services sets him apart as a leader in the field. With a proven track record of successful projects and a genuine passion for delivering exceptional results, Henry continues to have a significant impact in the flooring market.

Aaron Wong

Aaron Wong embarked on his professional journey with a solid foundation in Accounting and Finance, graduating in 2008. His career began at a Big Four Audit Firm, where he earned his Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA) designation. His expertise then expanded into the palm oil and oil & gas industries.

A pivotal moment came during his tenure in West Malaysia. Amidst a company restructuring and embracing his new role as a husband, Aaron chose to return to his roots in Miri, embracing the uncertainties of the future with optimism.

His venture into hardware retail in 2017 marked a significant milestone, with his inaugural project being the establishment of a flooring division with a major hardware retail player. This endeavor serendipitously led to a partnership with My Flooring, marking the beginning of an illustrious chapter.

Despite being a newcomer to the flooring industry, Aaron’s commitment to integrity, diligence, and authenticity shines through.

Mr Ting has more than 20 years’ experience in the wood and flooring industry – that’s a veteran right here. He began his career at Robina Flooring factory in Mentakab, Pahang in 1998. Starting as a technician, many years of hard work coupled with a passion for flooring enabled him to rise the ranks to  eventually be factory manager & finally general manager.

However, in 2013, being a Sarawakian at heart, he took a leap of faith by resigning as GM to settle in his hometown, Bintulu. It was a gamble back then as he did not know whether he could make it in the flooring supply & install business. As fate would have it, he crossed paths with Alex & James, and the rest was history. Their vision, passion & humble attitude enabled them to quickly form a formidable team. Bringing together many years of technical & practical expertise is a combination not many businesses can boast.

“Definitely it took a lot of time & effort to develop the right products, supply chain, marketing etc. to make this a success. However, it was also a lot of luck that we managed to meet the right people at the right time. No one person can make it alone. Being able to collaborate with people who share your passion and dreams, that’s what really excites and drives me every morning.”

Mr Ting believes that the success My Flooring built on is not short term, and it will not be easy for competitors to replicate what My Flooring has been able to achieve.

“The biggest challenges are actually ourselves. When we become complacent, passionless and greedy for short term results, and neglecting after sales service and long term goals, that would be our downfall.”
